Our Imperial Assault insert is colossal! It’s the largest box insert we have designed to date, consisting of 14 storage trays. Each of the trays is designed to be pulled out of the box for setup and we have designed token trays for use during play. We designed this insert to store everything from the base game through Wave 4+. This includes Twin Shadows, which is required to store the map tiles (once you place the components in the insert). Best of all, if you own all of the expansion content (through Wave 4+) and extra dice, you will still have room to store even more miniatures! Well, more miniatures excluding AT-STs. The insert can handle two AT-STs and that’s it.
This insert was designed to stand alone, but it is a direct complement to our IMPERIAL-002, IMPERIAL-003, and IMPERIAL-004 inserts. Our line of Imperial Assault inserts are designed to house you entire collection.
Note: This insert has been revised to store a Bantha on March 10, 2016.
This insert includes storage for:
- large cards (sleeved or unsleeved) – one tray
- small cards (sleeved or unsleeved) – two trays
- dice – one tray
- doors, stickers – one tray
- play and setup tokens – two stackable trays
- miniatures – seven trays (stores as many as 67 minis in individual compartments; larger sections can be formed by using less internal dividers to handle double-size and larger minis)
- everything except the map tiles, which you can store in your empty Twin Shadows box
If you sleeve, the provided etched dividers will be all you need, but if you don’t sleeve and you would like to separate your command cards and the like, you may be interested in the additional etched dividers available in our IMPERIAL-DIV-001 kit.
With this insert, we have designed a flexible divider system for the miniatures trays that will provide you with maximum flexibility when deciding how and where to store your prized minis.
What Do You Need?
Imperial Assault has a ton of expansions and we continue to suport the game and expansions. When new content is released, we assess the storage needs and provide information about how the new content fits into the existing storage solutions we provide. In cases of big box releases, we typically design a dedicated storage solution for the new box.Wave 11 Update
See our recommendation below, as always, for a quick synopsis of what you need. Wave 11 fits fine in our recommended storage solutions as of wave 10 (see below). The box provided for the Tyrants expansion is the small expansion box that we use for map tile storage for Imperial Assault, so it is unusable for storing minis, cards, etc. You may want to consider purchasing an IMP-002 for additional tile storage to use in the Tyrants box. It will certainly be need at some point soon. However, if you own one of everything to this point, you don't quite need another IMP-002 unless you want to better split/organize the tiles among the expansions. We are storing our tiles in just two IMP-002 at this point, so it is not required.Wave 10 Update
General Recommendations
- If you own one of everything (base game, expansions, and small expansion figures), you need: 1x IMP-001, 2x IMP-002, 1x IMP-003, 2x IMP-004. Purchasing the listed solutions will leave you with an IMP-004 with future storage capacity, leaving room for future wave expansions through some point in 2019. You may optionally want to grab an IMP-DIV-001 as well. The IMP-DIV-001 provides additional dividers for the IMP-001 to allow groups of cards (Imperial, Hero, Item, and Deployment) to be further divided.
- If you own just the base game, grab 1x IMP-001.
Storage Solutions for Imperial Assault
- IMP-001 - this solution is designed to store the base game.
- IMP-002 - this solution is designed to fit into the smaller boxes used by Twin Shadows and Bespin Gambit and provides game tile storage only. If you have all content, you need two of these.
- IMP-003 - this solution is designed to store the content from Return to Hoth and wave 5+ small expansion figures. Only this solution provides a dedicated tray to store the large hero sheets.
- IMP-004 - this solution is designed to store the content from Jabba's Realm and the small expansion minis from wave 8+. This insert was initially designed for Jabba and includes storage for the Rancor, but has been enhanced to allow it to be used with Heart of the Empire. The main change in all IMP-004's sold now is that you have the option of building one of two different token tray designs (one for Jabba tokens and one for Heart tokens). Only IMP-004 solutions purchased after October 21, 2017 contain the two token tray options.
- IMP-DIV-001 -this divider kit provides additional etched dividers usable across this line of inserts for those inclined to divide their class and item card group as efficiently as possible.
Imperial Assault Box Sizes
Across the Imperial Assault game and expansions, there are three unique box sizes:- small - Twins Shadows, Bespin Gambit, and Tyrants. We produce the IMP-002 insert for this size box and it provides map tile storage only.
- medium - Return to Hoth, Jabba's Realm, Heart of the Empire. These boxes are all the same size, however, Jabba and Heart each contain a very large mini that requires an insert that is taller than the box, causing lid lift. Therefore, for this box size we recommend IMP-003 for Return to Hoth and the IMP-004 for Jabba and Heart.
- large - base game. Our IMP-001 is designed for this box.
Etched Dividers
The dividers in our storage solutions for Imperial Assault contain etched abbreviations to assist with the categorization and storage of various cards. The following table defines what each etching stands for. Keep in mind that all etched dividers are not present in every kit. Each kit supports the cards noted in the description.Divider Etching Legend
Small Divider Etching | Card Type | Large Divider Etching | Card Type |
---|---|---|---|
CM | command cards | A | agenda cards |
CN | condition cards | D | deployment cards |
CO | companion cards | Sk | skirmish cards |
F | form cards | SiM | side mission cards |
HC | hero class cards | StM | story mission cards |
I, I1, I2, I3 | item cards | ThM | threat mission cards |
IC | imperial class cards | ||
R | reward cards | ||
S | supply cards |
Product Notes
- This insert provides fourteen (14) removable trays. There is clearance at the top for your rulebooks.
- This insert can store sleeved or unsleeved cards. Recommended sleeves include Ultra Pro Deck Protector, Mayday Premium, Dragon Shields, and FFG sleeves.
- This insert is constructed of HDF (wood product) and is natural colored. HDF does not contain a wood grain as it is a constructed wood product.
- Insert assembly requires some wood glue and about 70 minutes of assembly time. I recommend Sobo Craft glue or another comparable quick setting, tacky glue.
- This insert kit weighs 6.5 pounds, so it must be shipped USPS Priority Mail outside of Canada and the United States.

Hi Kevin, sharp eyes! We just updated the design last night to account for Bantha storage. See the link in the product listing for the upgrade kit (free for v1 kit owners, but you will have to pay for first-class shipping) or just go here: https://go7gaming.com/product/impban-001/

The product is ingenious. I can’t believe you can fit so many expansions in one box. I have every single expansion pack miniature in this, no problem. I can’t fit all of the cards when sleeved, but it’s still amazing, and I have room for them in the twin shadows box.

I just got mine in the mail the other day I was really impressed with how fast shipping was. The product itself is extremely high-quality I was really impressed with how easy the parts were to remove from the sheets and how everything fit together perfectly. I like the layout of this one much better then broken token’s design.

The instructions are sparse yet how to assemble is fairly obvious. The different components fit into the box perfectly with little wasted space. It’s costly, nearly as much as the base game. MDF isn’t pricey neither is laser cutting but the engineering behind this and the cost of running small business justifies the cost. Too pricey to say this is a must have but the end result has enough quality behind it to be a nice luxury item, especially after a bit of paint and felt.

Costly but I regret nothing! Invaluable resource for storing all your Imperial Assault goodies and when it’s time to play it’s so easy to sort take the boxes out and use them during the game. Have ALL the inserts for IA so far and ALL the expansions except the Jabba ones coming out. Everything fits with some room to spare for more upgrades and expansions. For me, a must buy!

After years of sitting on my game shelf I managed to trick enough of my friends into trying Imperial Assault last year. They enjoyed it so much we’ve purchased all of the expansions, and many of the add-on figure packs, which meant we needed more space. This organizer was a lifesaver for organization and prep time. It made clean up easy post session and really streamlined the set-up process for the Empire. I’ll be purchasing more to support the increase in figures/cards that need organizing. Highly Recommend,

I’ve got everything up to Wave 6 and this is perfect, when combined with the other two inserts. I currently keep every Scum / Imperial figures (save the tank) in this core box and it all fits like a glove.

This was the first insert I bought for Imperial Assault, and actually the first insert I bought for a game. The cards and tokens were one thing to deal with, but the figures and the map tiles were another trying to get things back in the box.
I first found plans for a foamcore insert and made that. It worked well for the base game. But figures were kind of crammed together, and once I got The Bespin Gambit, there wasn’t much room for the rest.
Then I found this site, someone had a link on the BGG forums, and the insert looked amazing and really had space for everything and so much more, just by moving the map tiles to small box expansion. Had been looking at the Broken Token one, but was wary of the space for some figures, and it also left no room for expansion.
It took a bit to build, as there were so many trays, but it was and is amazing. Love it and when I got around to buying it actually also had picked up Return to Hoth as well, so bought all 3 (IMP-001, IMP-002, IMP-003).

I love this organizer. It was very easy to assemble and it fits perfectly in the box. This is really designed to compliment the organizers for the expansions as well, which I think it a much better design philosophy than organizers from other companies. It really comes into its own when you have the expansions and those organizers as well, since using all 3 gives you space enough for everything with room left over, though I should mention there isn’t enough space to store ALL of the cards from all of the expansions if you’re just using this organizer by itself.

This organizer looks to be the best one available, as far as I can tell, due to the fact that it acknowledges that the tile sets should go elsewhere thus allowing for more figurine space. That said, I wish I could purchase extra boxes to store mini-figurines to replace the card storage boxes in this kit.
Ideally, I’d have all figures together in the base game’s box; the decks, tokens, and boards should all go into the Return to Hoth box.

Unfortunately, there are no minis tray that fit the space the card tray use. The card tray take up a very small amount of space in the insert.

Received this in the mail earlier this week and have just finished building it. The quality of the components is first class, all the pieces push out from their frames with ease and every part fits precisely. The design is great as well.
What would be nice, either on this website or included with the product, is a guide as to what they recommend goes in which tray. On the website it is easy enough to see the tokens and, generally, where the cards go. It would be nice to know which miniatures go where.
A definite 5-stars!

This insert is spot on. Fits snuggly into the box, everything has a place and does exactly what the description says it will do (i.e. you will need to place the map tiles into a separate box).
My only issue with the insert is with the card holders. I have purchased one of everything up to Wave 4 and sleeved all of the cards with FFG sleeves and it is the tightest fit (I can’t get the cards out after they are all placed in). I am actually going to remove the dividers that are included to free up space. This is the only issue that needs to be address and if FFG do in fact release a ‘big box’ with the next expansion hopefully extra space can be provided for the cards (maybe the boxes for the cards can be moved to the new box with the other tokens etc. and the spare space in the base box can be used for more minis ???).
By this insert! You will not regret the decision.

I spent nearly 4 hours building the foam-core storage option on The Esoteric Order of Gaming. It took 5 minutes to throw it away for this far superior design. If every game I own could be converted to a go7 storage option, I’d do it. The SWIA insert is well designed, easy to customize, and infinitely useful. Highly recommend anyone who has this game to purchase the insert.

Just received this at the beginning of this week after I had a minor issue with Belgian customs. European buyers should be aware of additional import charges and the possibility that customs will take a very close look at what you bought. In my case this amounted to an additional 30 EUR, which makes this a very expensive insert all in all. Just something to keep in mind.
Then, the actual insert. Nicely wrapped, a handwritten thanks from go7 (small gesture, but always nice) and everything arrived in one piece.
The quality is just…wow. Feels super strong, assembles so easily (not being an experienced hobbyist at all, I was surprised to see it all go together in under two and a half hours) and the end result looks mighty professional.
Everything fits nicely, with a lot of room to spare actually. I only took out the double deployment cards and the mission cards (which do not seem to get used in our games for some reason), they fit nicely in the expansion box with the map tiles.
The only thing I wonder is how the Bantha Rider of wave 4 will fit. I own General Weiss and after seeing the prototype for the Banta at Essen Spiel, I find it difficult to see it fit in. Any clarification on this (in the description for example or as a comment) would be highly appreciated.
5 stars. This is easily the best solution I found online and it is worth every penny. I sure hope the one for wave 5 and on will be as impressive. Great job!

I really detested the setup and clean up of this game before I purchased this organizer. I had everything separated with the cheap plastic sandwich bags and it was a clutter. This product is exactly as described and works so well. You must use some form of glue to keep the structures of the organizers intact. I used a cheap $2 wood glue from Walmart and it worked beautifully. Another point of interest is that the map pieces will not fit in the main game box with all the organizers inside. The designer(s) intended that you would have one of the expansion boxes where you could place the map pieces in. I agree with another reviewer’s suggestion that pictures be included of suggestions on where to place each and every game piece or card. All in all, I am very satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it.

This insert is a god given. It helps a lot with easy set up and keeps all the pieces in place. During set up , the trays storing all the tokens can be used on the gaming table.
This to me us a essential item to have if you own or intend to buy Imperial Assault.

I wasn’t planning on purchasing a storage solution for this at first, until I opened the box. For a 100+ dollar game, there is NO base storage included. Not even one that sucks like HeroQuest and other games.
This is a must have.
I will admit, this is also a bit insert set. It’ll take some time, and it’s designed to compliment other big box sets and inserts. So fair warning, if you think you’ll have room for tiles, you won’t.
If you’re just getting into the game, just buy 002 and Twin Shadows now and save the headache.

It’s a great product. The assembly instructions are fairly bare bones, but they’re exactly as descriptive as they need to be. Because everything is fairly straight forward on how to build, especially compared other brands I’ve purchased. Everything fits exactly as described in the box and is fairly intuitive for how to put things back in the box when you’re done with assembly or playing. Thanks for the great product and keep up the good work! This review applies to all 3 products I purchased so I’ll be copying it to each.

I was a bit hesitant to purchase a storage solution for $50, but am so glad that I did. I own the core game, Hoth, and Jabba’s Realm, plus quite a few hero and villian packs. I can fit everything minus the map tiles and Rancor into just one box now. If I keep expanding my collection, I will definitely be coming back here for more storage solutions.

It was super easy to put together. Parts fit snugly together and it hold together quickly with good tacky glue. Put the whole thing together in a couple of hours. After it was together, it seems really sturdy. Would recommend it to anyone looking to store the core game and a couple of expansions. I have the core, TS, RtH and all the miniatures that can be bought to replace tokens in those. All that are forced to be outside of the core box are about 8 miniatures and the board tiles which all fit in the TS box as the sire says they should. Can’t recommend this product enough.

Wow! This is exactly what I was looking for! Fits the core box perfectly and has tons of room for the early expansions. It took me a few hours to glue all the trays together but they are very sturdy and look great. Be aware: there aren’t designed storage spots for the hero cards or the threat/round dial but I find they sit on top nicely, even with rule books. Great product!

This is a great quality insert for the game. Very easy to put together with clear instructions. The only thing that was lacking was instructions on how all the trays fit together in the box. But with a little trial and error, it fit very well into the box.

Love it. I have plenty of expansions and am already very invested in the game. Would not say it is needed for someone just getting into the game, but after investing more money, time, and especially paint this is exactly what I needed.
Instructions are a bit vague (does not label which numbered MDF sheet(s) was needed for the current box I was building), but after working through a few containers it’s clear how to assemble them without instruction.
Plenty of extra inserts/dividers. I wood-glued the walls of the boxes together but left the dividers unglued. They fit together rigidly enough to not fall out and I can still remove them to reposition if I reorganize or add more cards/tokens/miniatures. Miniature containers can easily have their inner dividers removed to increase storage count instead of having 1 mini per cubicle.

I have had this insert for about a week now and it is fantastic. The quality is great and the instructions are easy and comprehensible. I just wish that some of the boxes were interchangeable between boxes. While all the large card boxes are interchangeable and the small card boxes are interchangeable, most of the miniature trays have to go in their respective boxes, which makes it a bit complicated to sort everything efficiently. I wish the trays were designed so that if I wanted to, I could have a card box, token box, and miniature box. Despite that, this product is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good storage solution.

Received this organizer in the mail 2 days ago, and immediately sat down with my craft glue and started the assembly process. After about an hour of solid work, the trays were all built and left to dry. Having used the Broken Token tray organizer, I was keen to get an organizer which could hold all of the figures in their own individual compartments (I had to double up in the Broken Token tray).
The next day I put all of my pieces in the appropriate trays, and was amazed to find that all of my figures fit in there with a good 8-10 spare places (I have all the currently released figures, up to and including wave 3). All the cards in sleeves fit nicely, and there’s plenty of room for all the dice (I have 3 sets), tokens, manuals etc. The only things that don’t fit are the map tiles (but as that is clearly explained in the product description I was fully prepared for that) and the threat and round dial.
Pros:
– Fits everything in one box, other than the map tiles and the thread/round dial.
– Once glued, the trays are very strong (I’ve already dropped two of them :P)
Cons:
– General Weiss doesn’t really fit in the large figure section unless you take his side-mounted blasters off. This isn’t a problem for me, but anyone who has painted the figure might have some difficulty.
– The trays fit VERY snugly in the box, and as such the bottom ones can be tricky to pull out – but this isn’t worth removal of a star from the ratings! 😀

I found that the best way to address the tight boxes (I had a similar issue with my 7 Wonders box) was to lightly sand the exterior with fine grain sandpaper. It didn’t take much to make them loosen up, since they already fit, so even a little made all the difference.
