This fast building, two (2) tray external solution can be used to store game components and minis. It was originally designed for use with Massive Darkness™ and can be placed inside the Kickstarter extras cardboard box from that or can be used externally, however it can be used with any game that requires a large, structured storage solution. This solution includes a lid.
CMON sometimes does not provide a high-quality box solution for Kickstarter extras, so we designed a solution that can be used externally or internally and with any game that needs additional structured storage.
This two (2) tray solution provides:
- an enclosure tray with a lid to store larger minis
- a removable tray to store smaller minis
Product Notes
- Insert assembly requires some wood glue and about 35 minutes of assembly time. I recommend Sobo Craft glue or another comparable quick setting, tacky glue.
- This insert is constructed of HDF (wood product) and is natural colored. HDF does not contain a wood grain as it is a constructed wood product.
- This product is not officially licensed. All marks are the property of their respective owners.

This organizer is designed to fit inside the Massive Darkness KS extras box and it works perfect. (Own a 2nd copy that’s we use wih MD)
This is also offered as a storage solultion for Zombicide Invader, but the KS extra storage box for ZI is much smaller, so this storage box must be used on its own, which looks very plain and sticks out like a sore thumb on a shelf.
So I did a simple make over:
Instead of throwing out the core game’s cardboard sleeve for the mini trays, I cut the different sections, glued them to the lid, sides and bottom, used a black marker to fill the empty spaces and then Modge Podged the whole thing to seal it.
Now I think it looks great on the shelf!
Oh, and it has a ton of space for up to 4 player boards and those extra abominations and other stuff!

I fit all my KS extras in this box and all the extra heroes, including all the heroes from the expansion boxes. Helps me organize all that content and the name tags are awesome! I highly recommend getting the name tags (MD008)!

Refer to my review for MD-001. I was able to breakdown 3 expansion boxes and incorporated it in this insert. So happy with it.

This is a great product for storing the many boss monsters from the KS. I LOVE that they chose to make their own box. I would have preferred it was a little bigger so it was the same dimensions as the main box rather than having it fit in the cardboard box but not a big deal.
Currently I store the orcs and the small bosses in the top tray. At some point I will be migrating the heroes to that tray as well.
However, I would really prefer two of these to the pile of small boxes I have to truck around. This could have been done by making the top tray into a 2/3 tray and a 1/3 tray. Then the larger base bosses from the expansions (reptisaurus, spear maiden) could be accomodated by omitting one vertical divider as well as all the extra heroes, ratlings, etc. We would even have room for trays and character sheets. I would stagger into my friend’s house (he has the table) with three similar sized boxes instead of two big boxes and a pile of little ones.
I would also have liked some wide dividers that would span between two rows. Currently my orcs are in long columns which is ok but I would prefer wider, shorter rectangles. Minor quibble.
It is still fantastic for KS owners. I recommend taping the list of base numbers to monsters on the lid. The MDF material is great.

This can be used free-standing, but I recommend it as a way to fill the KS plain cardboard box. As a build, it’s not as difficult as MD-001 but it has a difficult part of the build (which I got wrong). The one F piece in the bottom assembly is easy to get in the wrong place, in which case the top tray won’t sit level on the bottom assembly. I recommend building the top first and then putting in the G and F pieces without gluing first to make sure you have F in the right place. I got it wrong and had to take a Dremel tool to the nubs to sand them down.
Other than that, I had no problems with the build, though I would punch out the little tiny holes before assembling the pieces (they are for name plates if you have them from MD-001). Also I would recommend caution when selecting dividers from the pieces not shown in the instructions. There are a LOT of different divider types that go in the various slots in the bottom assembly which look similar but are not. Don’t use glue till you really understand which dividers go in which row.
If you put this in the KS box you may not need the lid. If you do need to use it freestanding, you have to really be sure nothing rises to the top of the compartment or the lid won’t fit. Note also that the lid fits tightly and can be difficult to remove. I’m also wondering if over time it would get loose, which is why I like it better in the other box.
Anyway, in combination with MD-001 and MD-004, I can hold nearly all my kickstarter stuff except for the Reptilian boss though it is tight. I ordered another box insert that holds the Reptilians and the Rat people in the same box and with that new box, the four boxes should hold everything securly.

I picked up this component and was able to fit all of the KS Extras (the Lightbringers’ Box) with plenty of room to add the Troglodytes box, Sorcerers vs Lord Tusk, and Noble Warriors vs The Cockatrix. While not as efficient as saving space as the core insert, it makes up for this with flexibility.
