Our storage solution for the Massive Darkness™ base game conveniently stores all base game components including player dashboards, class pads, tokens, dice, minis, cards, and tiles. This kit includes four (4) removable trays and a large base insert that is intended to be permanently stored in your game box. This solution provides a total storage solution for the Kickstarter or retail base game contents, plus the Crystal and Lava tiles.
This solution is designed with a rectangle of unused space at the top where you can store your player dashboards and all class pads (add-ons too). This unused space can be filled in using our MD-002 Tray kit, which will offer additional minis storage space in the base box. However, you will then need to store your player dashboards and class pads in one of the smaller add-on boxes.
This storage solution provides:
- storage for six (6) large enemy minis, six (6) heroes, and two (2) bin storage trays for your smaller enemy minis
- one (1) removable card storage unit that stores large/small, sleeved/unsleeved cards
- two (2) removable mini trays that include adjustable inner walls and dividers
- one (1) removable token tray for small tokens, pegs, mini bases, and dice (24 dice), including a small, removable wound token tray inside
- etched name tabs for the base game minis
This solution provides free space at the top for game manuals (base + Crystal & Lava manual).
What Do You Need?
Massive Darkness™ is a really big game and it has tons of minis. It is unfortunate that CMON did not provide a quality box for many of the Kickstarter extras as this would have allowed us to collapse a full set of the game + expansions into perhaps three boxes. As it stands, if you own add-on content you will need some of the smaller solutions and will need to use the smaller boxes, in addition to the base game box. Our guidance follows:- If you own just the base game (retail), you should purchase 1x MD-001.
- If you own the base game (Kickstarter including the KS extras), you should purchase 1x MD-001, 1x MD-003, 1x MD-005, and 1x MD-007 and possibly MD-008. The MD-008 provides etched name tabs for all heroes and monster classes in the expansions, including the Kickstarter content.
- Alternatively, if you own the base game (Kickstarter including the KS extras), you can purchase 1x MD-001, 1x MD-002, 1x MD-003, and 1x MD-007 and possibly MD-008. This alternate approach means you will be storing your class pads and player dashboards in a small add-on box and not in the MD-001.
- If you own everything, you should purchase 1x MD-001, 1x MD-003, 1x MD-004, 1x MD-005, 1x MD-006, 1x MD-007 and possibly the MD-008. If you want to increase the number of enemy minis you can store in your base game box, you can also grab an MD-002, but you will need to store your player dashboards and class pads in one of the smaller add-on boxes. If you have bridges, chests, columns, and doors, you will find spaces to store them across the various inserts.
Note: you can optionally store all of your KS extras in 1x MD-004 + 1x MD-005 + 1x MD-006, instead of 1x MD-007. This solution uses the smaller add-on boxes and the MD-006 will cause ~11mm of lid lift in the smaller Troglodytes, Ratlings, or Elementals add-ons boxes. Further, this solution will require that you store the Nightmare Thing and Overseer minis together. This approach also costs more than just grabbing an MD-007, but it does have the advantage of using all but one of your smaller boxes.
- Beyond the two choices above, consider that the MD-001 solution handles the base game and includes etched name tabs for all heroes and monster classes in the base game. The MD-007 handles storage of many of the Kickstarter extras. Our MD-002 offers two additional trays usable in your base game insert. If you use the the MD-002 you will need to store you player dashboards and class pads in one of more smaller add-on boxes. This may cause lid lift in the smaller boxes (Cockatrix, Tusk), if you don't have one of the taller small boxes (Hellphant, Spearmaiden Cyclops). The MD-003 insert is usable in either the Sorcerers vs Lord Tusk or Noble Warriors vs The Cockatrix add-on boxes and stores the minis from both of these add-ons. The MD-004 insert is usable in either the Bloodmoon Assassins vs The Hellephant or Warrior Priests vs The Spearmaiden Cyclops boxes and stores the minis from both of these add-ons. The MD-005 insert is usable in either the Elementals, Ratlings, or Troglodytes boxes and is designed to store the minis from Elementals and Troglodytes together in a single box. The MD-006 insert is usable only in the Reptisaurians box and is designed to store the minis from Reptisaurians and Ratlings together in a single box. Finally, the MD-008 provides etched name tabs for all heroes and monster classes within the expansions and Kickstarter extras.
Note: if you own everything, you can't just grab 1x MD-001 and 2x MD-007s to store your entire collection. The MD-007 is not deep enough to store many of the larger minis present in the small add-on boxes.
Solution Matrix
This is a complex offering with a ton of content, so here's a table that may help. As you view this table, keep in mind that you will never need more than one of each model below. Most of the solutions below allow you to collapse two add-ons into one a single box.MD-001 | MD-002 | MD-003 | MD-004 | MD-005 | MD-006 | MD-007 | MD-008 | |

Table Notes
- Base + KS Extras #1 - this approach utilizes the MD-002 to provide more minis storage in the base box. This removes the need for the MD-005, but does require that you store your class pads and player dashboards in your remaining small add-on box and there will be some lid lift.
- Base + KS Extras #2 - this approach stores your class pads and player dashboards in your base game box, but requires the addition of the MD-005.
- Base + KS Extras #3 - a customer has reported that he managed to fit the base game + Kickstarter extras into just the MD-001 and the MD-007. Keep in mind that this required a little ninja storage skill, but it is possible. This approach does require creative thinking and uses storage areas in ways that we did not design for, but based on the images he shared with me it looked good and does save you needing a couple of smaller boxes and extra inserts. If you find you are unhappy with this approach, you can always add one or more of the smaller storage solutions later; they ship for ~$6 in the USA.
Product Notes
- This insert can store sleeved / unsleeved small and large cards.
- Our token trays in this solution will accommodate either the cardboard tokens or add-on premium plastic tokens but not both.
- This insert is constructed of HDF (wood product) and is natural colored. HDF does not contain a wood grain as it is a constructed wood product.
- Insert assembly requires some wood glue and about 60 minutes of assembly time. I recommend Sobo Craft glue or another comparable quick setting, tacky glue.
- This product is not officially licensed. All marks are the property of their respective owners.

I was attempting to consolidate this Massive game down after purchasing MD2 on Kickstarter. I purchased the MD001 + MD002 sets to compile all miniatures from the MD1 core box + both rattlings mobs and rat ogre + both troglodyte mobs and minotaur + KSE lightbringer box less the Overseer, both Cyclops, Nightmare Thing and Helsbane. There was room for all MD1 campaign cards (sleeved), all 10 levels of mob cards (sleeved and separated by level) and levels 1-5 of all Roaming Monsters in the box and the Boss Card along with all Tiles + Campaign Book.
The Bloodseeker Minotaur and Chromatis are stored upside down. Fortunately Chromatis’ horn is elevated off the ground and he sits snug between the other enemies. The Minotaur base requires placement in n a certain direction, but the horns and weapon are situated in a way that they are protected.
I would definitely purchase another organizer fro GO7.
My ultimate goal is to have a the following:
-> MD1 Lightbringer or other box that holds all heros, hero cards (sleeved), hero boards and dash boards together for all levels 1-10. This box also holds all game tokens, core game dice (2 sets), door cards as well as all equipment cards in a removable tray that is separated by card type. The box would include Player trays separated by class and card sets for each hero type’s game components for ease of access and passing around during game sets by player. I’ve got a system I’ve made, but I’m sure you could do something better.
->MD2 core box holds all MD2 enemies + the KSE Darkbringer Roaming Monsters + Enemy expansions + as many Roaming Monsters as possible from the Darkbringer box and MD2 Hero expansions. All Enemies should have at least their level 1-5 cards (sleeved) and Boss dashboards in the box if they are included, and lastly
->MD2 Darkbringer box to house all of the MD1 Roaming Monster/Boss miniatures that didn’t fit in the MD1 core box + the KSE Darkbringer Roaming Monster/Boss miniatures that wouldn’t fit in the MD2 core box and any associated level 1-5 enemy cards (sleeved) and Boss dashboards for miniatures that are included in the Darkbringer box.
-> the Heaven Fall campaign box would have storage for all level 6-10 cards (sleeved) so that it is consolidated together for a single source, consolidated campaign resource.
This setup would allow for easier travel;
If you want MD1 setting grab the hero (Lightbringer) box and MD1 Core + Darkbringer box if you want additional Roaming Monsters or Bosses are desired.
If you want MD2 setting grab the hero (Lightbringer) box and the MD2 core plus Darkbringer box if additional Roaming Monsters or Bosses are desired.
If you want the campaign play, all enemy cards and campaign cards for play past level 5 are housed within the campaign box along with the miniatures that were found in it. This storage system should help make the game more portable as well as save shelf space. Thank you GO7Gaming. Your MD1 system has greatly help with my consolidation attempts!

Pieces all fit perfectly and I mean perfectly. Great utilization of space in the box and awesome extra labels for expansions.

I found this insert to be high quality, cleverly designed and easy to assemble.
Everything fit together as intended with no modifications necessary. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from Go 7 Gaming again.

I am very pleased with how everything fit into place with this core set. It seems a little tight for the small cards if they have sleeves (this is if you are including the artifact cards from the add-ons), but they will all fit. It was not hard to put together, and, in fact, I quite enjoyed putting everything together. I like that this main set includes the edged labels, as it really helps find things. It has made me consider getting the edged labels for the other sets.

To begin, I had purchased the entire line of Massive Darkness products from the CMoN kickstarter and had been eagerly awaiting the insert release from Go7Gaming. As I have purchased other inserts for my CMoN games from Go7Gaming in the past and have been happy with each and every one, I expected no less now. And happily, the inserts do not disappoint.
I purchased every insert and label offered to house my collection except for the MD-002 product. The entire KS line is now stored in 6 boxes with some room to spare for more heroes and smaller monster miniatures. All three types of dice, chests, pillars, doors, and bridges fit as well. The entire design of storage was well thought out, as some of the inserts have specific slots where only that particular miniature will go to avoid box lift or miniature damage (such as the giant spider or earth elemental).
All the inserts are well made of sturdy material and are fairly easy to put together, although time consuming as attention to detail is a must. One example would be the card storage unit. Upon examination, one side of the card unit will be taller on the left side as opposed to the right to help store your rulebook correctly. If the card storage unit is not assembled correctly, the manual will not have the area to sit properly on the top of the insert.
In all, I am happy with the design. My only complaint, and it is rather a small one, is that after sleeving all cards (using FF standard and mini sleeves), most of the dividers provided will not fit. But I do have the entire line of cards housed, including the Black Plague crossover cards. However, any future crossover cards, such as the ones offered with Green Horde, will require the removal of another divider.
Overall, if you are serious about purchasing a well-made insert, consider these. You won’t be disappointed.

Go 7 Gaming has always had excellent craftsmanship, creative designs, and excellent service. Every insert is amazing, yet they somehow seem to improve with every new release. They also go above and beyond in terms of service. I ordered the Massive Darkness insert the first day it was available. I guess one of the name tabs was misspelled because I received a replacement a few days later. I didn’t even notice it was misspelled, but Go7Gaming went ahead and shipped me a replacement anyways. I have had nothing but great experiences with Go7Gaming and I look forward to seeing the company grow.

This is a very well designed insert, and the quality of the components is top notch. My only complaint is there’s not an included explanation of where everything should go. Used the product images on the site to get everything situated. Other than that, great product!

It’s so awesome! I loved putting it together, and everything fits so well. The token and card trays are my favorite. Their usually the most annoying to store.

This product is PERFECT for containing the entire retail box of Massive Darkness.
One small issue would be slightly more space to hold miniatures as they tend to be piled up within the containers, but everything fits so I can’t complain!

I’m not an expert building these things but I’ve build 5 or 6 inserts from various manufacturers including Broken Token.
The Insert goes together, but is a very challenging build, especially for a beginner. There are not enough diagrams to show the sequence of events, especially for the last page of instructions with the complex build that goes in the bottom of the box. It’s easy to get wrong, so be careful. The first page of instructions on the third part sheet shown has a layout that doesn’t match what we get from the part sheet, so be careful selecting parts there. Also be aware that not all the pieces are shown in the instructions, mostly including dividers and name sheets. Adding dividers and names to the build really require examining the photographs on the site. This is true for figuring out how to load the insert with Massive Darkness’s pieces. You will need those photographs.
It looks good now that it’s done, but it requires a lot of careful reading and assembling. Since the last (major) assembly on page 3 cannot be completely assembled dry first, it’s easy to get wrong, so be very careful there.

I like this product a lot, I especially like the MDF material, but it needs a little more space for the cards and some deeper wells to store the more numerous minis. I will address that in the MD 002 review.
If the spider holder was moved to the right a bit it would have allowed the card holder to be a little longer. After the cards are sleeved its a bit tight. I know this is aimed at only containing the main game but there are NO other card holders in ANY of the other MD inserts so they all have to go into here. I love the card holders, it just needs a little more space. If there was more space the card holder could be two pieces as well so i can arrange it on the table more comfortably.
The MDF material is great. The label tabs are great. The ability to arrange dividers to taste is great. Almost perfect.

As an additional note, I store the pillars under the spider, I store doors and extra dice on the left side (main dice in pouch on top of goblins in MD-002 tray). I store the unused tokens in the row of bins to the right of the spider. I am not a fan of storing anything I need during play in those spaces.

This storage solution really helps put everything together nicely. The wood is solid and the pieces fit together easily and snuggly. Initially I had a sheet missing for the token box and Bobby from the company hooked me up with no hassle. Awesome company with great customer service. Highly recommend, will be buying more from Go7Gaming!!

Once again, Go 7 seems to be my go to for inserts. While I wasn’t expecting to fully condense MD down to a couple of boxes, this insert solution has certainly spread me some real estate on my shelf. Everything fell out of their frames easily and the directions were very clear and it was all easy to put together. My only real concern was really what to put where… I have everything that the kickstarter offered so I got everything recommended by Go 7. In the end, it all fit and has worked out great but, putting transferring all the content and figures was a bit harrowing. Of course, I could have done it any way I saw fit but, I wanted to utilize the space as best I could and keep things together. So I had to keep referencing the pics on the site to see how things were laid out. Doing this across 5+ boxes got to be a bit daunting. I would love to see those pics or some suggestions in the layout of the build instructions.

This would probably be my 8th-10th or so insert I gotten from G7G and they’ve never let me down…but this one does have some small quality of life flaws. I’d like to begin with saying that if you have MD I totally recommended this inserts and I’m glad I have it & anything I don’t mention from this point on is excellent.
Cons:
(1) Token lid is difficult to get on/off. Perhaps with time the wear will make it easier to get on/off
(2) Nameplate are difficult to put on. They’re a pain to get on & I probably recommend not using them as well for this next Con
(3) Nameplates get in the way of the minis. Its not to bad, like everything fits, but it just eliminates an angle to slide the minis in
(4) Mini compartments needed more space. Everything fits (from the core game only) but you kinda gotta find a sweet spot for everything to sit flush with the insert. This is a first for me, because the ZBP insert has a similar style, but not this issue.
(5) Sleeved cards fit, but sometimes they’re snug. I would prefer to be able to have more space to put my finger in to grab the cards.
—Those are all of my complaints. Everything else is excellent & I still recommend this insert

I purchased the entire Kickstarter set for MD and all of the Go7 organizers, including the MD-002 trays. I really like how everything fit together. I didn’t have any assembly issues. Nice storage and organization of everything. I excluded the crossover cards and this allowed all of the MD cards to fit perfectly with FF card sleeves with room to use the dividers. All of the minis stored with no issues. I found by having the MD-002 trays and the Kickstarter exclusives organizer, I could store everything without the need for the MD-003 organizer. Took a little bit of trial and shuffling, but I don’t miss the space from it. Everything still fits comfortably including 4 extra dice sets, plastic and cardboard game pieces, the pillars, bridges, and treasure chests. If I get a chance, I’ll post photos of how I organized it all 🙂

First off, the description of each product was detailed and even comes with pictures from consumers. The instructions were on point. It took me well over 2 hours to construct one but it’s because I enjoy each moment and I don’t want to rush things. Each piece was well constructed and fits very, very well to the other conjoining pieces. Once completed I don’t think there’s any need for glue unless you’re that type that needs extra security… like me. The whole thing ends up in the same box the minis came from anyway. It’s just well organized and pretty to look at. The only negative I can think of is the price. It’s modest at the least. But looking at the material and construct I guess it’s worth it. I even used the extra wood as bbq fuel. So nothing was wasted. Also, bought from this company before to organize my Pathfinder and Mage knight. They are that good.

The various inserts for this game are extremely functional with well-designed, efficient use of space. The designs allow for a high degree of versatility in how you wish to arrange your minis. It is an absolute pleasure to use. Label tabs are rather fun for the completionist. If you have Massive Darkness and enjoy the game, then this is a must-have in my opinion. There are two considerations, if however minor: assembled weight is on the heavy side (unavoidable, really) and selection of a good quality glue for assembly as regular glue bonds can break readily with frequent handling of the trays and boxes. Thank you for making this, Bobby and Go7Gaming.

i just recieved this insert and i have to say it is really well made. On the other hand i have to make a consideration, not to flame but to help g07gaming to connect with clients over the world.
I live in Italy and i often buy inserts from canadians stores or americans and i have to admit i never paid so much for shipping fees; i had to afford a 64$ shipping cost for the insert and other 25€ when the package was delivered. It probably was my mistake not considering the surplus for the italian shipping but it did hurt me anyway. My suggestion is: make clear that shipping costs are don’t include shipping after the package reaches the foreign state! if your shipping cost were lower i (as probably many others from Europe) would buy so many stuff from your store! the quality of your inserts are amazin, well done!
again, im not writin this with flaming intentions but to help you make a consideration that could help sellin stuff worldwide!
Greetings.

Overall this is a great way to store your game. Great quality, easy to follow instructions for assembly. The only downside is that if you want to know how everything fits into the box, you have to come back to the website and look at the product pictures. The etched labels are a very nice touch.

This was my first time purchasing an insert for a game. I had high expectations for this product and it totally exceeded them. It made me a true believer. The insert went together well; dry-fit this like the instructions recommend, before gluing. I will be recommending Go7 to friends.

When I finally got Massive Darkness, the first thing I did was look for a game organizer. I have played my friend’s version many times, and there’s a LOT of time spent on taking figures out of the boxes and looking for certain heroes at the beginning and enemies during the game. I bought the MD All-in Kickstarter bundle insert. The wooden labels alone for every hero and enemy are worth it and make setting up and playing the game so much easier. The customizability of the insert let me fit everything from the All-In KS in the 001, 004, 006, and 007. The 003 and 005 are not needed. This was my first, but won’t be my last organizer from go7gaming.
