FFG continues to release old favorites and enhance them with modern app support. This automation of game mechanics allows a truly cooperative play experience that really shines with episodic adventure games such as Mansions of Madness. Best of all, the re-release has allowed us to revisit this classic and produce a storage solution for the 2nd edition of this FFG classic.
Our storage solution for Mansions of Madness includes ten (10) removable trays, including three (3) convenient railed monster storage trays, and is intended to be placed inside the publisher game box (FFG). The railed monster trays allow for the safe and protected storage of painted/unpainted minis. Everything else also has its place in our storage solution for Mansions of Madness.
This storage solution includes etched token names in the trays to indicate the location for each component so you will never wonder where something should be stored.
This storage solution provides:
- one (1) removable large railed monster mini storage tray with space for two (2) large monster minis with attached bases
- one (1) removable medium railed monster mini storage tray with space for six (6) medium monster minis with attached bases
- one (1) removable small railed monster mini storage tray with space for twenty (20) small monster minis with attached bases
- one (1) railed investigator mini storage tray with space for twelve (12) investigators
- one (1) removable top tray that provides storage for rulebooks
- one (1) removable tile tray for map tile storage
- one (1) removable shallow token storage tray
- one (1) removable deep token storage tray
- one (1) removable tray with storage for investigator cards/ID tokens
- one (1) removable small card storage tray for sleeved/unsleeved cards
Our railed mini storage trays allow you to mount and store your monster minis safely, but do require unadorned/unpainted bases. Also, the medium and small minis storage trays have room for two (2) additional minis each and the investigator tray has room for four (4) additional investigators. Note that you can forego the use of the rails and just build the minis bins and drop your minis in the bins. Your choice!
What Do You Need?
- If you own the 2ed base game and all seven expansions (Recurring Nightmares, Suppressed Memories, Beyond the Threshold, Streets of Arkham, Sanctum of Twilight, Horrific Journeys, Path of the Serpent), you will need our MOM-001, MOM-002, MOM-003, MOM-004, and MOM-005 storage solutions to store everything. With these five inserts + core + seven (7) expansions, you will have room to store everything. In addition, you will have room to store additional small cards, investigator cards, dice, future tokens, many more map tiles, and fourteen (14) additional investigators (the MOM-001 top tray is used to store the jumbo map tiles).
- If you only own the base game (2ed), then you only need the MOM-001.
- If you own the base game and one expansion, you will need the MOM-001, MOM-002, and MOM-003 storage solutions, since the MOM-002 stores tiles and the MOM-003 stores investigators. If the one expansion that you own is Beyond the Threshold, you can get by with just a MOM-001 and MOM-002, but the two investigators from BtT will need to be stored in the MOM-001 top tray or elsewhere. If you do go ahead and get a MOM-003 as well, it would be empty except for the two investigators. Finally, if the one expansion you own is Streets of Arkham, Sanctum of Twilight, Horrific Journeys, or Path of the Serpent, you need the MOM-001 + MOM-004.
Product Notes
- This solution provides ten (10) removable trays.
- This insert can store sleeved / unsleeved small cards and sleeved / unsleeved investigator cards (FFG Tarot sleeves).
- This insert is constructed of HDF (wood product) and is natural colored. HDF does not contain a wood grain as it is a constructed wood product.
- Insert assembly requires some wood glue and about 120 minutes of assembly time. I recommend Sobo Craft glue or another comparable quick setting, tacky glue.
- This insert kit weighs > 5 pounds, so it must be shipped USPS Priority Mail outside of Canada and the United States.
- This product is not officially licensed. All marks are the property of their respective owners.

It fits, it works. There are a few “be careful you don’t glue it together wrong” spots to watch out.
But what I’m writing about as well, is that a 2nd insert kit can be had, to store the 1st edition figures and room tiles and investigators in the 1st edition box, by only having to saw down (shorten ) a few bits. Safe woodworking with power saws is a must though, as trimming very small pieces requires special assistance – do NOT put your fingers within inches of a blade. Ever.

My review is for all 3 inserts for the base game and both extra tile collections.
This is probably the best insert you will find for this game and it is pretty nice overall. I rated it 4 stars however, because there are a couple frustrating design decisions and the high price for all 3 inserts makes them a little harder to forgive.
I really do not like that there is not room for all the investigator cards if they are sleeved. Presumably if you are going to spend money for storage inserts, you will probably spend $3 for sleeves. About 8 of the sleeved investigator cards must be moved to the top tray. Extra room is given to things that don’t need it like dice and ID tokens, which leaves things like person tokens crammed into a space that is difficult to sort through while playing. You could move them, but the bays are labeled which makes it kind of annoying.
Extra room is given for additional monster figures, but there is no extra room for investigators. This means with Beyond the Threshold you already need to look for additional storage, which makes the extra monster bays far less useful. That space could instead have been used for better storing the cthonians as another reviewer points out. It is actually possible to store the cthonians across from the hunting horror by placing them into the insert simultaneously with the horror wing tucked under the cthonian tentacle, but it’s very tight, and it’s not even obvious that this is possible. The pictures conveniently do not display the cthonians for this reason, which I find shady.
These might seem like minors concerns, but again, these 3 inserts cost about the same as the base game and that makes them worth considering imo. That said, I am happy and would buy again.

As described, this storage solution will fit everything needed for the game and a bit more in a very clever and innovative way. Glue is needed but to me this makes if more sturdy and less likely to fail after several uses.
If I were to complain about anything is that the instructions are not idiot proof (idiot here) so I glued the investigator holder incorrectly, and that there is no showing how the final solution all fits in the box.

Great quality sturdy insert. It does what its supposed to do. The only drawbacks were build time (it took me 3-5 hours a day for 3 days to get it done. I must suck at this lol) and the instruction dont exactly tell how each individual part is meant to be placed in the box once assembled.
On to MOM001 and MOM002 next!!!
