Our Gloomhaven top tray provides an optional top tray to partner with our GH-001 storage solution. This top tray offers storage for the player counters, map tiles, board, sticker sheets, and game manuals. This solution will cause ~20mm of lid lift.
The primary benefit of this top tray is that it provides a quick and easy way to remove the stored components (map tiles, manuals, sticker sheets, etc.) from the top of the box so that you can quickly gain access to the storage trays below (provided in our GH-001 kit).
Product Notes
- This insert is constructed of HDF (wood product) and is natural colored. HDF does not contain a wood grain as it is a constructed wood product.
- Top tray assembly requires some wood glue and about 15 minutes of assembly time. I recommend Sobo Craft glue or another comparable quick setting, tacky glue.
- This product is not officially licensed. All marks are the property of their respective owners.

Works well, and happy to have something to be able to quickly pull all the other bits out to get at the game. As others have stated, I wish the base was a single piece (I understand their reason for splitting it for shipping and standardization, but still…), and would really like a sheet or video to show a recommended method of storing everything in the tray. Lid lift is less than an inch, and the lid still lays flat, unlike what would happen with a file folder.

Assembled the entire organizer and sorted all the pieces. This is a fantastic solution to keeping your game sorted and easily accessible. The only downside I’d have to say is that there is a bit of lid lift, but this was clearly advertised when I purchased the product.

It’s a fine tray at a reasonable price (though only if you don’t have to pay multiple times for shipping). I agree with other commenters that it would be good if they had a suggested stacking order, because I have yet to find one that works well.
This is exacerbated by the fact that in addition to the large map pieces and rulebooks/stickers, you also have to store the health and experience trackers and the character sheets here.
I did manage to glue the bottom tray together incorrectly–in my opinion it could be made more clear that the bottom pieces are not symmetrical and need to be glued together in a particular way. (The rest of the insert didn’t have this problem for me.)
All in all, though, it’s much better in my mind than just stacking everything willy-nilly in the box. Time will tell if I continue to keep my map pieces here, or if I use the accordion folder method I’ve seen described elsewhere.

The top tray is just what it says it is. Its an easy space to store the tiles, manuals, stickers, etc. for Gloomhaven.
Pros:
– Allows for an easy lift-off tray to setup the great game even quicker and easier.
– Feels solid, and won’t easily break with all the stuff it holds.
Cons:
– Its a big tray, so it comes with a 2-part base and takes a little more time to assemble and glue. I would have preferred a single solid bottom base. Or even two, smaller trays to fit on top (but I don’t know if the tiles would fit with a 2 tray system)
– The size of tray forces some lid lift, less than an inch. But for the convenience of having a removable tray, its worth the extra space.
In the end, its just a tray. Nothing too special, and no specific storage spots to organize the tiles and books neatly. It just adds an easy way to get to everything else for setup.
